The 2008 NCAA Division I FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) football season, or the college football season, begins on August 28, 2008, progresses through the regular season and bowl season, and (aside from all-star exhibition games that will follow) will conclude with the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) National Championship Game in Miami Gardens, Florida on January 8, 2009, featuring the #1 and #2 teams determined by the BCS Ranking.

Background

College football is American football played by teams of student athletes fielded by American universities, colleges, and military academies. It was the venue through which American football first gained popularity in the United States. College football remains extremely popular today among students, alumni, and other fans of the sport. According to "Bill Stern's Favorite Football Stories" (1948), the most people ever to attend a college football game was 114,000, for the Army-Navy game in 1926. It ended in darkness, in a 21-21 tie.

National championships
  • Bowl Championship Series (not an official NCAA championship, includes only Division I FBS teams)
  • National football championship (this article pertains to systems of determining a national champion prior to the BCS)

The First Human with Mechael Phelps 8th Gold Medal

The First and The One
Michael Phelps
8th gold medal for 2008 Olympics

Nobody in the world don't know him, now. I don't think I will write about swimming but Phelps make a new rule and everything for 2008 Olympics. My feelings Phelps's show maybe more than interest 2008 Olympic Opening.

Phelps Biography
Phelps born June 30, 1985 is an American swimmer and 14-time Olympic Gold medalist (the most by any Olympian) and holds seven world records in swimming.

He holds the record for the most gold medals won at a single Olympics; a total of eight, surpassing Mark Spitz. Overall, Phelps has won 16 Olympic medals: six gold and two bronze at Athens in 2004, and eight gold at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. In winning these medals, he has twice equalled Soviet gymnast Alexander Dityatin's record of eight medals (of any type) at a single Olympics (Dityanin: Moscow 1980; Phelps: Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008), and ranks second in total career Olympic medals, after Soviet gymnast Larissa Latynina, who won a total of 18 medals (nine gold) spanning three Olympic Games.

Phelps' international titles, along with his various world records, have resulted in him being awarded the World Swimmer of the Year Award in 2003, 2004, 2006, and 2007 and American Swimmer of the Year Award in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, and 2007. Phelps has won a total of 48 career medals thus far: 40 gold, six silvers and two bronze. This includes all of the Championships in which he has competed: The Olympics, the World Championships, and the Pan Pacific Championships.

Phelps in 2008 Olympics
Phelps is representing the United States at the 2008 Summer Olympics. He qualified to compete in three team and five individual events, winning the gold medal in all eight events:
  • August 10 - 400 m individual medley Gold Medal 4:03.84 - World Record
  • August 11 - 4 x 100 m freestyle relay Gold Medal 3:08.24 - World Record

USA Dream Team Background

The United States men's national basketball team is the representative for the United States of America in international men's basketball. Considered the best national basketball team in the world, Team USA is historically the most prestigious, and successful team in international competition, medaling in all fifteen Olympic tournaments it has entered, coming away with twelve golds.

Traditionally composed of amateur players, a 1989 rule change by FIBA allowed USA Basketball to field teams with professional players. The "Dream Team" won the gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. That team is often regarded as the greatest collection of talent on one team in sport history.

With the introduction of professionals, Team USA was able to spark a second run of dominance after capturing only a bronze medal in 1988. A team of professional players competed in the 1994 Basketball World Championships, finishing first. In 1996 and 2000, Team USA once again captured gold medals.
